Loose Leaf Tea in Tin. A wonderful alternative to decaffienated teas, our organic Hojicha is in reality a charcoal roasted Bancha. Roasting dramatically reduces its caffeine content and brings a whole new taste to the tea, replacing the vegetative tones of standard green tea with a delicious toasty, slightly caramely flavour, somewhat reminiscent of genmai-cha. Like Oolong and Kukicha, but unlike normal green tea, Hojicha tastes great chilled. These flavors and low caffine content sets our Hojicha apart from other Japanese Green teas.  

The clean, roasted flavours of hojicha go with any kind of food, particularly oily foods. Because of its low caffeine Hojicha is often used as an after-dinner tea. It is also a popular tea to drink before going to sleep. Breaking away from the tradition if you want to start your day ""low caffeine"" then this is the tea for you.

With a distinctively clear red appearance the liquor is less astringent with a toasty, slightly caramely flavor. 

 

Pre-heat your pot for about a minute with boiling water then discard this water. Scoop a teaspoon of tea per cup and place it in the heated pot. Bring water to a boil for a few seconds allow the boiling water to cool for a few minutes (about 180 F) and then pour it over tea leaves. Brew for 3-4 minutes. If you prefer you may add a twist fresh lemon. Strain and serve. 

Hojicha pairs with almost any kind of food but because of its clean, roasted flavours it pairs particularly well with oily foods. Its low caffeine Hojicha makes it an excellent after-dinner tea.
